2023: Goje shuns APC, Tinubu campaigns in Gombe

A former governor of Gombe state and incumbent Senator representing Gombe Central, Muhammadu Danjuma Goje, has allegedly pitched a tent with the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Goje, the APC Senatorial candidate for Gombe Central, it was gathered, is alleged to be clandestinely working for Atiku against his party’s presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Goje was reportedly at loggerheads with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya; a development that led to a reconciliation of the duo by the party’s national leaders during the APC primaries.

However, on Monday he was conspicuously absent at the APC presidential campaign rally in Gombe, his home state.

At the rally were APC bigwigs, including Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya; the APC presidential candidate, Tinubu; his running mate, Kashim Shettima; APC national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu; President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan; Senator Ali Modu Sheriff; governors of Yobe, Borno, Jigawa and Plateau states.

“He was also absent at the inauguration of the state’s APC Campaign Council and flag off of campaign rallies performed by the national chairman, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu,” a source in the APC said.

The source, an APC chieftain in Gombe who asked not be named in print, said Goje’s antics amounted to the politics of betrayal.

“I was among the people that begged Governor Inuwa to forgive Senator Goje and give him the senatorial ticket. Goje himself swore that he would never work against the governor. But you can now see the moment he got his ticket he returned to his old tricks,” the party chieftain said.
