10th House: Prepare for robust opposition, PDP NWC charges members-elect

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has charged its members elected for the 10th House of Representatives, to prepare for a robust opposition as preparations for inauguration of the National Assembly assume top gear.

Addressing PDP Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives during a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, Acting National Chairman of the party, Amb. Umar Damagum, leading other members of the NWC, reminded the members-elect that the country was in trying times, and their contributions must reflect that.

While congratulating them for their successes in the polls, he said “You have come at a time we never see anything as bad as we are seeing it today. You have a daunting task before you. You have been elected at a time the country was no longer what we used to know. People are looking up to you to correct the wrongs.

“In making laws, you must be mindful that the society is no longer what you used to know. You should be loyal to the country first, when you make laws. The party expected to see you also to be loyal party member. One thing I can assure you, PDP has the mechanism to solve its own problem. We have always been known to be full of capacity in whatever we want to achieve, we don’t expect less from you.

“In the 10th House, you are expected to give the kind of opposition expected from you. Ours will be a very credible opposition, we will put them to task to see what needs to be done is done for this country”, he said.

Earlier in his remarks, Convener of the caucus, Hon. Fred Agbedi declared that members-elect on platform of the PDP has risen to 116, after conclusion of supplementary elections, stressing that there was need for the caucus to meet with party in build up to the inauguration expected on June 13, 2023.

In another development, a forum of members-elect known as Joint Task-10th Assembly has inaugurated its leadership, with a pledge to among other things, ensure the independence of the legislature inter-dependence of the legislature and executive, legislation for good governance and grassroots impact.
