10 burnt beyond recognition in Lagos-Ibadan tanker explosion 

No fewer than 10 people were burnt to death in a tanker explosion shortly before Sagamu interchange, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway axis of Ogun State, Thursday October 20, 2022.

Blueprint gathered that five vehicles were reportedly involved in the inferno which occured very early in the morning.

The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun sector command, Florence Okpe, confirmed the accident.

According to her, the victims were burnt beyond recognition.

The vehicles involved in the accident are a Mack truck with registration number: AKL 198 ZT, an Iveco truck with no registration number, a Mazda bus marked, FFE 361 XB, an unmarked Howo truck and the Mack tanker.

Okpe attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speed on the part of the Iveco truck.

According to her, the driver of the Iveco truck which was travelling on top speed lost control and rammed into the tanker which resulted to the fire outbreak due to leakage.

Okpe explained that some of the burnt vehicles were towed off the road leaving the tankers for the fuel content to be Transloaded.

The Sector Commander FRSC Ogun Sector Command therefore commiserated with the family of the victims after visiting the scene of the incident. 

He also advised motorists to drive cautiously, obey traffic rules and regulations as well as considering each other while driving.
