Students drag college provost to court


Students of City College of Health Science and Technology, Zaria, Kaduna state, have dragged their provost, Mr Sankyai Obadiah, to Chief Magistrates’ Court in Zaria over alleged non accreditation of courses in the institution.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the plaintiffs, Hunaifa Musa, Yahaya Musa and Francis Luka, are challenging the accreditation and approval of the school to run its health courses.

In his submission, counsel to the students, Hussaini Abdu, said they were in court to challenge the legality of operations of the college.

He said the college had neither government approval nor accreditation by regulatory bodies saddled with the responsibility of approving health courses before admitting students.

Abdu said they filed a direct criminal complaint at the court, adding that the school’s action was a criminal conspiracy and cheating which contravened the law.

He stated that they had all the necessary documents which proscribed the college  yet continues to admit students to the court,.

The defence counsel, Yusuf Sambo, said that the complainants were compelled to sue the proprietor in view of his track records in the area.

He said some competitors wanted to use the complainants to blackmaii the college.

The Chief Magistrate Umaru Bature, in his ruling, adjourned the case to February 11 for mentioning.

Bature granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties, who must be senior civil servants or two district heads or someone with landed property in Zaria.
