VON, Indonesia to partner on introduction of Bahasa language

The Voice of Nigeria (VON) and the Republic of Indonesia have agreed to partner to introduce Bahasa language on VON platforms for wider coverage and dissemination of information especially among the two countries.

Speaking when he led management staff of VON on a visit to Indonesian Embassy on Tuesday, the director general of VON Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, said the collaboration would lead to
sharing of information that reflects the true pictures of the two countries.

He said: “I am here to introduce Voice of Nigeria to the Embassy because VON operates like Radio Indonesia our job is to give a positive narrative about Nigeria and Africa and we do it in eight languages and am desirous since from the day one that I assumed office as Director General Voice of Nigeria one language that I want to be part of languages will be Bahasa Indonesia“.

“Because when I had an internship with Jakarta Post, the Chief Editor said, one of the problems he mentioned to me that the news about Nigeria in Indonesia is through a third party, they don’t get direct news from Nigeria is from other foreign mediums and the same thing in Nigeria and now God Almighty has given me this opportunity we want to close this gap so that we can speak directly about Nigeria and share content and such content we share it directly”.

In his remarks, the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Usra Harahab, said having Bahasa on VON’s platforms would deepen cultural, educational, economic and diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Indonesia.

He said having Bahasa on VON platform is a good opportunity to broadcast and exchange information between Nigeria and Indonesia.

“They (VON) like to have additional language China and Indonesia (Bahasa) is good for us (Indonesia) to have opportunity to broadcast for the economy, for Education, for political and for the Indonesian cultural exchange and we will also like to establish Indonesian House in Lagos by using our former embassy so that we can modify it to become Indonesian House, like in Amsterdam for Europe, and Africa in Lagos, to promote our culture and also to promote our investment and trade”.
