Community policing, way out of security challenges – Peller

The Ayedero of Yorubaland and former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Shina Peller, has identified community policing as a way out to the current security challenges across Nigeria.

Hon. Peller said this at the 6th annual Shina Peller sponsored Ramadan lecture of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Oyo state council, held at the premises of the NUJ , Iyaganku, Ibadan weekend.

The former lawmaker who represented Iseyin/ Itesiwaju/ Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency pointed out that the only way out of the woods is to engage traditional rulers, religious leaders as well as people at the grassroots in the business of policing to curb insecurity in different parts of the country.

“We have failure already, I have always said it before, how long have we been clamouring for change in Nigeria? Change in 2015 was change, in 2019, change , in 2023 , change, but they’ve forgotten that you can’t change the system by fighting the system,” he said.

Hon. Peller added: “Today, we have insecurity ravaging the whole country from south to the north, but like I say, it is the time to let people take charge. Community policing will play a huge role in tackling insecurity.”
