Zulum assures workers of better deal, urges more cooperation

Borno state governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has appealed to Borno workers to key into the transformation agenda of the state government through the 25-year development framework, to fast track speedy economic recovery of the state.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Umar Usman Kadafur, stated this Monday during this year’s workers day celebration held at Ramat Square Maiduguri.

He also said, “As today marks the International Day for workers, the task of building a state is a collective one; I therefore urge all workers to remain steadfast, law abiding and dedicated for the government to continue to address all their demands.

“International Workers’ Day, also known as Labour Day, is a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the International Labour Movement and occurs every year on 1st May.”

The governor further stressed that his government will continue to make concerted effort at creating conducive enabling environment for workers, pointing out that a lot have already been achieved so far in the areas of prompt payment of salaries and allowances, sponsorship of workshops and seminars as well as settlement of gratuities and provision of office furniture among others.

Zulum also revealed that his administration has been supporting civil servants and is always taking care of their welfare as well as other fringe benefits and appealed for team work so as to help move the state forward.

While wishing the staff a successful celebration, he called on the people of the state to continue to pray for the full return of peace to the state.

Chairman NLC Borno state chapter, Comrade Yusuf Inuwa, appreciated the concern of the present administration in addressing issues that affect workers’ welfare and expressed the hope that more would be done in his second tenure.

The NLC chairman however appealed for the implementation of promotion benefits, payment of gratuities and pension for local governments, absorption of Housing Corporation, Borno Express, State Hotel into the mainstream civil service.
