Zamfara: Acute water scarcity hits Gusau

Gusau the capital city of Zamfara state has experienced acute portable drinking water in the last three weeks.

Investigation by our correspondent revealed that some areas such as Government Reservation Area (GRA), Gada Biyu, Birnin Ruwa, Tullukawa, Tudun Wada, Gada Baga, Kan Wuri among others were in serious shortage of water.

Findings by our correspondent reveals that 25 litres of water has been selling for N100 instead of N50 by the water vendors.

Investigation conducted by this medium shows that many children were early in the morning on daily basis searching for water since the last three weeks.

In an interview with Blueprint correspondent, resident of Hayin Malam Sani area identified as Malam Yunusa Garba described the development as unpleasant.

He said six of his children stopped attending school  because of the water shortage in the area.

“My children used to go out every morning to look for water for our daily need and will not come back until after 9:00am. So, there is no way to go to school all this while,” he said.

He appealed to Zamfara state government to look into the matter and find lasting solution to the challenge.

Blueprint correspondent visited the state water board to verify reason for the water shortage,  but officials of the board declined comment.

The managing director of the board was said to have traveled to Abuja for an official engagement.
