Wase re-elected 1st Deputy Speaker, ECOWAS parliament

The Deputy Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Hon Ahmed Idris Wase, has been unanimously re-elected first Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS parliament in Niamey, Niger Republic. 

In a statement Tuesday, his Chief Press Secretary, Muhammad Puma, said Wase was unanimously re-elected by the lawmakers from the 15-member country that make up the sub-regional parliamentary body.

“At the inaugural session of the 5th legislature of the ECOWAS parliament held in Niamey, Niger republic, delegates from 15 member countries unanimously re-elected Wase as the first Deputy Speaker, the highest ranking of all the four deputies,” he said.

The parliament also re-elected Sidi Mohamed Tunis from Sierra Leone as the Speaker of the sub- regional parliament, while Hon Boucary Chaibou from Niger Republic was elected as second Deputy Speaker, Hon Aklesso Atcholi from Togo as third Deputy Speaker, while Hon Adja Pinto from Guinea Bissau was elected fourth Deputy Speaker. 

Recall that Wase was elected in September last year as the first Deputy Speaker of ECOWAS parliament at the opening ceremony of the second extra ordinary session of the Parliament in Monrovia, the Republic of Liberia, the position he held at the last session of the ECOWAS parliament.
