Use Kogi, Imo, Bayelsa governorship elections to improve operations, Dino tells INEC

The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 11, 2023 election in Kogi state, Senator Dino Melaye, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use the upcoming governorship elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states as an opportunity to improve its operations.

Dino who spoke when he appeared on Channels Television’s “Politics Today”, emphasised that INEC needed to address concerns raised about its operations during the last elections.

He had previously questioned INEC’s mode of operation during the presidential and National Assembly elections and expressed dissatisfaction with the electoral umpire’s performance.

He pointed out that a mere trial run wouldn’t suffice to evaluate INEC’s effectiveness because there had been a trial run during the 2023 Presidential/National Assembly, Governorship and States Assembly elections.

According to the PDP chieftain, the Kogi election presented INEC with the chance to rectify the deliberate mistakes made during the previous elections.

“The Kogi election is an opportunity for INEC to correct the mistakes, deliberate mistakes of the last election using the instrumentalities of these three upcoming elections.

“It is an opportunity for INEC to renew her image. We all knew what happened during the last election.

“So I’m just advising INEC that the Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo elections are an opportunity for them to become born again,” Dino maintained.
