UniUyo VC escapes death

Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo (Uniuyo), Akwa Ibom state, Prof.( Mrs.) Comfort Ekpo, is said to have escaped being hurt  on Wednesday when unknown gunmen attacked her official residence at Ewet Housing Estate Uyo, the State Capital.
Blueprint gathered that on May 07, 2014, about 11,30p.m. gunmen stormed her residence at Ewet Housing Estate, and fired bullets into the building, with a clear intention to cause harm.
The Registrar, Mrs. Edak Umondak, said “the gunmen, who were spotted at the fence, had a gun duel with the policemen on duty and later zoomed off in their parked vehicle.”
Mrs. Umondak also explained  in a statement made available to our reporter that the university had alerted members of the public about the escalating violence against the vice-chancellor whom she said was passionate about the entrenchment of quality education in the school.

Blueprint recalled that on June 12, 2013, certain disgruntled elements unleashed senseless mayhem on the Town Campus of the university, during which many property went up in flames.
Our correspondent reports that the university management had alerted security operatives on the development for necessary action to forestall future occurrence.
