U-17 AFCON: Golden Eaglets wait on CAF after FIFA cancelled World Cup

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have said they are still waiting for a formal notice from CAF as regards the Golden Eaglets participation in next month’s U17 AFCON qualifiers even though FIFA have cancelled the 2021 U17 World Cup due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

There have been speculations over the fate of the U17 AFCON qualifying tournament since FIFA announced that the U17 World Cup has been cancelled.

NFF officials have said they are still waiting on CAF to communicate them the decision on the U17 AFCON qualifiers.

This comes after a top team official informed SCORENigeria that they have been assured by NFF general secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, the qualifiers will still go ahead as planned.

“The Golden Eaglets are still going on with the tournament, the general secretary (NFF) told the team after the match (vs Future of Africa Academy) yesterday (Sunday),” a team official disclosed.

The Eaglets are drawn against Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire in Group B of the AFCON U17 Qualifiers for the final U17 AFCON billed for Morocco early next year.
