Tincan port rakes in N29bn in Q1

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tincan Command, Apapa has announced N29.146b revenue from export in the first quarter of 2018. The amount included N22.432bn worth of agricultural products through Tin Can Island Port. This was disclosed by Customs Area Controller in charge of Tincan port command, Abdullahi Baba Musa.. Musa told journalists that the volume of export in the first quarter of 2018 has surged by 558.46% in terms of volume and 402.24% in terms of FOB value over what it was within same period in the previous year, 2017. He added that agricultural products totaled 38,517 metric tonnes while processed and manufactured goods amounted to 6.945 metric tonnes. He listed the agricultural products to include Cashew nuts, rubber, hibiscus flower, cocoa butter.
Sesame seed, processed wood, frozen shrimps and processed leather. Exported manufactured products includes empty bottles, biscuit, cigarette, polyethylene, billets, soap, hair cream and tissue paper. Musa also said that the command intercepted two containers of Tramadol Hydrochloride (225mg) imported from India, which were declared as electrical static converters and ciprofl oxacin.
Among other seizures made by the command include 3×40 of E-waste which are considered toxic to the environment and human health. He added that 5×40 containers of second hand clothing consisting of about 1,239 bales of clothing under absolute prohibition 1×40 container of used tyres we’re among the seized items. He stated that the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the contrabands is N124 million.
“The federal government initiative on Export especially the Agricultural commodities is yielding result, for the period under review, January to March, 2018, Agricultural product export amounted to 38, 517 metric tonne with Free On Board (FOB) value value of export of N22.435 billion” said the customs boss. He however stated that some of the items exported within same period include Processed and manufactured goods worth 6,945 metric tonnes with Free On Board value of N29.146 billion.
In comparison with 2017, the Comptroller said the command within the same period export 8,140 metric tonnes with FOB value of N7.246. The products include empty bottles, biscuits, cigarette, polythene, soap, among other items.
