Tata sponsors mass wedding of 200 couples in Katsina

A philanthropist in Katsina state, Alhaji Umar Abdullahi Tata, for the first time in history has sponsored mass wedding of 200 new couples in Daura Local Government of Katsina state in a bid to encourage peaceful marriage among youth.
The ceremonies took place on Friday at Daura low-cost Central Mosque and lead by Sheik Yakubu Musa Hassan.

Each bride was given a complete house furniture, refrigerator, two bags of rice, two bags of maize, two carton of both Macaroni and spaghetti two gallon of vegetable oil including N50,000 cash assistant.
Alhaji Tata also paid a dowry of N20,000 on behalf of parents to each of the grooms and called on both grooms and brides to be patient with one another for peaceful marriage.

Tata said the N50,000 donated to each bride was part of assistant for the bride to set up small business.
He described the occasion as historic and called on wealthy individuals to offer similar assistance to reduce number of unmarried women in the state.
“We have a large number of widows in our houses, we need to provide assistance to those wishing to marry them,” he emphasized.
According to him, similar programme would soon be held in Katsina and Funtua.
Earlier, an Islamic scholar Sheikh Yakubu Musa Hassan warned the brides not to sell items given to them, but use them for the benefit of the entire family.
Parents of the couples expressed their happiness and prayed for  them to live in peace.
