Supreme Court verdict victory for democracy – Arewa Group

The Supreme Court verdict affirming the election of President Bola Tinubu, and dismissing the appeals of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and their presidential candidates has been described as victory for democracy by Arewa Think Tank.

The Supreme Court last Thursday upheld the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the February 25 presidential election, while dismissing the appeals by presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Mr Peter Obi.

But a northern group, Arewa Think Tank, in a statement signed by its convener, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, said there was no victor and no vanquish, while tasking President Tinubu to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness, overlook all misgivings and carry everybody along irrespective of political differences.

“We all hailed the judgment and it’s now time for the President to focus on good governance for the people and fulfil all the electoral campaign promises he made.  Concerning the acceptance of this verdict, we urge our colleagues, friends and politicians to accept it in good faith.

“We also want to use this opportunity to congratulate the leaders of other political parties because it is better for them to resort to the judiciary, which they have done, rather than taking on each other. The actions of the oppositions resorting to the judiciary means that democracy is getting mature in Nigeria and we are happy with that.

“Now is the time for all Nigerians particularly the President to roll up his sleeves and continue with the good governance. We need  to come together as one country, one people and move ahead and take this country to where it rightfully belongs.

“As Arewa Think Tank group, we want the country to move forward. So we congratulate Mr. President and we believe there is no more speculation, so Mr. President should be focused and do what he is supposed to do for Nigerians,” Yakubu said.
