Sule distributes 3,960 tonnes of fertiliser in Nasarawa

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state Monday flagged off this year’s cropping season with the distribution of 3,960 metric tonnes of fertilizer to farmers in the state.

Distributing the farm inputs in Lafia, Governor Sule said the fertilisers would be sold to every farmer who wants to buy and at the subsidized cost of N3, 500 per bag.

The governor warned the farmers against buying the products and sold at high rates as government will not condone the activities of such people and they would be made to face the full wrath of the law, if they are caught.

He stated that his administration was working hard to encourage youths to go into farming through introduction of various aspects of farming.

The governor also advised the unemployed youths in the state to take advantage of his administration’s support for agriculture to come forward and engage in full time farming in order to sustain themselves and members of their family.

Sule stated further that government would provide tractors and other implements for effective agricultural practice, as well as enabling environment for farming in the state.

“Arrangement has been intensified for the procurement of additional fertilizer for direct supply to farmers aiming at enhancing the harvest

of various crops to improve strategic food production in the state,” Sule said.

He said a committee has also been set up for the distribution of the fertilizer and he urged the committee to do the needful or be held responsible for any abnormally in the course of distributing fertilizer.

The committee members included all the local government chairmen and overseers. They are to serve as chairmen while chairmen of traditional councils of those areas, Divisional Police Officers (DPO), representatives of the DSS, NSCDC, farmers association and agric coordinators are to also serve as secretary respectively.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Naphtali Dachor called on farmers to make very good use of the opportunity in order to boost food production in the state.
