One of the notorious leaders of the robbery gang which terrorised Calabar, the Cross River state capital, giving residents sleepless nights, is one Christian Donatus Eze, an SS II student of Eastern Secondary School, Calabar.
Eze, who hails from Imo state, was picked up by the Police last week.

Speaking to Blueprint in Calabar during an interview while being paraded by the Cross River state Police Command at Diamond Hill, where he is cooling off his heels, Eze said he had robbed with guns in places like Ekpo Abasi Street, Marian Road, and White House Street on three consecutive times before luck ran out on him.

He said while praying to God for forgiveness, “my name is Christian Donatus Eze; I am an SS II student of Eastern Secondary School, Calabar.
“It was my friends who lured and introduced me into joining the gang. I have been involved in armed robbery only thrice at Ekpo Abasi Street, White House Street and Marian Road. When the police arrested some of them, they mentioned my name.

“The Police used tricks and called me on phone to come for some transactions. I went to where they said I should come and that was how I was arrested. I did not join the gang deliberately, it was the work of the devil, I pray God to forgive my sins and help me out. I vow that I will never allow anybody to lure me into crime again.”
He said one of his gang members died in the course of gun battle with the police, but did not disclose the name of the death robber.
The fair complexioned and innocent-looking young man said he lived with his parents in Calabar and that his family members were aware of his predicament.
