Shettima, Akpabio, Northcentral governors, others honour Akume in Abuja

 

The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima,  former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon; Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and Deputy Speaker of House of Reps. Ben Kalu, were among the dignitaries that attended the reception  held in honour of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF),  Senator George Akume, in Abuja.

Other dignitaries that attended the event,  which was organised by North-Central Governors’ Forum,  were: Senate Leader, Bamidele Opeyemi; Governors Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state; Hyacinth Alia of Benue; Mohammed Bago of Niger; Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau and Yahaya Bello of Kogi. 

Also in attendance were:Ademola Adeleke of Osun; Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara; former Governors Simon Lalong and Rochas Okorocha; North-Central elders; traditional and religious leaders and Ministers-designate, among others. 

Speaking at the occasion, Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urged political office holders to put the interest, unity, and progress of the nation above personal or sectional gains. 

Shettima also called on present and aspiring political office holdersrs to emulate the virtues of Akume, who he noted is a trusted ally. 

In a goodwill entitled ‘a life of honour’,  Shettima described Akume as “an idea, a man of honour, a beacon of unity, loyalty and integrity in our nation.

Also speaking, the governor of Nasarawa state and Chairman of the North Central Governors Forum, Engr Abdullahi Sule, said the grand reception was organised to show appreciation to the President for recognising the zone with the appointment of Akume as SGF. 

In his address,  Akume who thanked Tinubu for finding him worthy of appointment as the SGF,  said he would be grateful to the president.
