Seplat JV issues 45,000 free eye glasses in communities

No fewer than 45, 000 persons have so far benefited from Seplat energy joint venture free eye glasses in the last 12 years, the company has said.

This was just as 90 persons have regained their sights through the company’s free surgical eye care.

The base manager, western asset of the company, Mr. Emmanuel Otokhine, stated this Wednesday during the 2024 free optical program for residents in its host communities.

Otokhine said the program tagged: “Eye Can See” is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Seplat energy and its partner, NNPC Exploration & Production.

He said over 2,000 persons are being treated in the 2024 edition of the program, adding that, ” the exercise is designed to provide quality eye care to people in the areas we operate.

“It also involved the screening of patients, provision of drugs, issuance of eye glasses and surgeries when necessary.

“This is a comprehensive services we are offering because we screen for high blood pressure, diabetes and other related diseases.

“And for us, the major driver is the number of impact that we have created, which is very key,” Otokhine stated.

One of the free eye surgery beneficiaries who identified himself as Joseph Ogbomo, 72, said he was diagnosed of cataract in 2021, and required N2,00, 000 to perform the surgery at the time.
