School proprietor tasks governments on standards

The chairman of Royal Rainbow International School,  Lugbe, FCT, Amb. Biodun Owoseni, has called on governments at all levels to ensure that only private schools that met international standards were allowed to operate.
Owoseni made the call in Abuja at the school’s 9th Prize-Giving Day and Graduation ceremony.
He further noted  that the proliferation of substandard schools was an impediment to the nation’s quest to ensure that young people received quality education.
“It is good for government to devise the right policies to ensure that private schools met the required international standards for registration.
“Government should not approve any mushroom school. Those that have been registered in error should be deregistered’’, he said
Owoseni called on governments to assist private school proprietors in the provision of basic infrastructure such as computers and boreholes.
He said that government should reduce taxes levied on private school as incentive for proprietors to invest in the infrastructure development in their schools.
The chairman of the occasion, Mr Joseph Olawole, urged the federal government to increase its investment in the education sector.
Olawole said this would help improve the deteriorating conditions of the public schools.
“So many people cannot afford to enroll their wards into private schools. We need to do more to ensure that we give Nigerian children the opportunity to go to school,” he said.
He commended the graduating schools and also urged them to be steadfast in their educational pursuit.
One of the graduating students, Miss Sharon Unimuyiable, while speaking on behalf of others  called on governments to produce policies to widen access to university education.
