Following reported cases of alleged fuel diversion and hoarding by marketers and owners of filling stations in Kano, the state government has vowed to take punitive action against any person found to be causing unnecessary hardship to motorists and commuters.
To this end, the government has inaugurated a special task force mandated to scout all the nooks and crannies of the state with a view to fishing out those it described as “saboteurs” of government’s efforts.
Inaugurating the task force, the Commissioner for Commerce, Alhaji Abubakar Danburam Nuhu, said government was irked by the “unpatriotic attitude of some fuel marketers and owners of filling stations who foolishly take solace in hoarding and diverting the commodity.”
He said: “We find it absolutely imperative to set up the task force in order to check the unwholesome activities of some unpatriotic and shameless fuel marketers. We can’t fold our arms and dance to the whims and caprices of some selfish individuals. We must act now to bring them to order.”
He advised the perpetrators to desist from that act and appealed to motorists and commuters to exercise patience as the scarcity would not last any longer.
