As Nigeria strives to reach its full economic potential under President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s leadership, it’s crucial for all stakeholders, including state and local governments, legislatures, and other concerned parties, to play their roles. This collective effort is essential for achieving a one trillion Naira economy, a feat that would solidify Nigeria’s position as a major economic player in Africa.
However, Nigerians are currently facing significant economic challenges, with an inflation rate of about 28% or higher, making it difficult for the average citizen to afford basic necessities. The purchasing power of most Nigerians has been eroded, and many struggle to make ends meet. Despite these challenges, the Tinubu administration’s efforts to address Nigeria’s economic woes are commendable.
A recent report by Fitch Ratings, a financial giant, awarded Nigeria a BB+ rating, reflecting the President’s commitment to his monetary and fiscal policies. This is evident in improved government infrastructure development expenditures, reasonable allocation to the three tiers of government, and increased foreign reserves. The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX) has also seen increased investments through Indirect Foreign Investment (IFI), a positive indicator for the economy.
In Oju/Obi Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. David Ogewu has made significant strides in connecting his constituents to national inclusiveness. His efforts have addressed long-standing challenges faced by the Igede people, particularly with the ongoing construction of the Oju-Adum-Ogoja road. This project, which marks the first time in over three decades that such a significant budget has been allocated to the area, will boost economic activities and development across Igedeland.
As people, the Oju – Adum – Ogoja Federal road mean a lot to us, it is the gateway to the heart of our city ,(the Oju City ) and the only road that link the headquartered of our acentry home of Inyeche which seat the convant stool of our great grant fathers. (Efan Epedili)
The road’s construction will have a positive impact on the local economy, enabling farmers to transport their products to markets, women to sell their goods, and traders to access markets in Igedeland and beyond. This will increase economic activities, boost incomes, and enhance Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the state and local governments. The road will also open up new opportunities for commerce and industry, transforming Igedeland into a thriving economic hub.
Furthermore, Rt. Hon. Ogewu’s office is working on another critical infrastructure project, the Ababakiri-Oju road construction, which is ongoing.A memorandum of understanding has been reached with the Ebonyi State Governor and the Honorable Minister of Works, and the project was captured in the 2025 national budget with construction of Oyongo bridge now in a top gear.
This will further expand economic opportunities and improve connectivity in the region.
Rt. Hon. Ogewu’s vision extends beyond infrastructure development. He is working to bring electricity to rural areas, with the Obegede-Oboru-Owo electricity project set to benefit about thirty rural clans. This project will unlock the economic potential of these communities, enabling them to engage in productive activities and improve their standard of living. Already, transformers and electricity poles have been delivered, signaling the imminent commencement of the project.
In addition to infrastructure development, Hon. Ogewu has also prioritized education and human capital development. His scholarship scheme has awarded over N500,000,000 to Igede students in tertiary institutions, with promises of increased awards in subsequent years. This investment in education will empower the next generation of Igede leaders and professionals, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to drive development in their communities.
Through his monthly faith-based outreach programs and constituent intervention project, Hon. Ogewu has provided hundreds of sewing machines, grinding machines, motorbikes, cars, and other packages to support his people.
These initiatives have improved the livelihoods of many Igede residents, enabling them to engage in productive activities and support their families. His efforts have made a significant impact, and the Igede nation is experiencing a new era of development.
Moreover, Rt. Hon. Ogewu’s commitment to healthcare is evident in his efforts to improve healthcare services in Igedeland. He has facilitated the provision of medical equipment and personnel to rural health centers, ensuring that his constituents have access to quality healthcare. This has improved health outcomes and reduced the burden on urban healthcare facilities.
Security Initiatives:
Rt. Hon. Ogewu has also prioritized security in Igedeland, recognizing its importance in creating a conducive environment for economic growth and development. He has worked closely with security agencies to improve security in the area.His solely efforts led to sighting of Army post between the border of Oju and Konshisha local government will had bring a lasting peace among the waring communities in Igede and their Tiv neighbors.
