Rivers Commissioner to Eguma: Wike ‘ll wire you if…

As new football season draws near in Nigeria, Rivers state Commissioner of Sports, Hon Boma Iyayi has disclosed the technical Adviser of Rivers United could be shown the exit if he performs below par in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Rivers United which was birthed two seasons ago after the owner, Rivers state government collapse both Sharks and Dolphins football clubs barely escaped relegation last season after woeful performances during 2016/2017 league season.

However, Commissioner Iyayi who spoke to Blueprint Sports maintained that Governor Nyesom Wike wasn’t ready to spare him should he not meet the expected target.
Though Iyayi refused to let out the goal set for the team when 2017/2018 season gets underway on January 14, he posited, “Governor Wike is no non-sense person who doesn’t do things based on sentiment.

“The much I can tell about him is that once he gives a task, he expects you to deliver or you are replaced. It doesn’t matter even if you are his cousin. Eguma knows the has a task before him.
“We retained him because he has the experience despite the fact that the outcome of last season wasn’t too good. But don’t forget he led Rivers United to get to the group stage of CAF competition last.”

At some point, Coach Eguma was suspended by the club management last season and was later reinstated. Shortly after the season ended, former Heartland handler Ndubuisi Nduka was drafted to assist Eguma in the technical crew.
