Review master plan of FCT to accommodate us, FCT indigenes tell FG

Gbagyi/Gbari Youth Association FCT on Friday demanded a review of the master plan of FCT to accommodate the indigenous population as they no longer need resettlement but integration for urban renewal development.

President of the group Comrade Nuhu Dodondawa Auta while briefing newsmen in Abuja, said is only fair and just for them as a people to be included in the scheme of things, saying, “we have no other place to call home like other Nigerians resident in the FCT do.”

He further urged the FCT minister to Constitute an Advisory Council which will consist of our stakeholders and others.

According to him, in the the appointment of Permanent Secretaries, 60% should come from Area Councils who must be an indigene of the Council. We have no other place to go.

He recalled that on the fourth day of March 2024, the Minister of the FCT, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike disclosed that the administration will be appointing nine permanent secretaries for each secretariat in the FCTA and will also submit names to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for confirmation for the appointment of FCT Civil Service Commission and members of the Commission.

He stressed that the Permanent Secretaries which are nine in number will be spread across the six geopolitical zones and will be left with three slots.

He further said the Federal Commissioner for Federal Civil Service Commission should be replaced with FCT Indigene going by the rotational arrangement between Niger/FCT, hence Niger State has occupied that office for so long now.

According to him, that “we be given two Mandate Secretary slots from each Area Council to add to the present number of secretaries for efficient administration

“That an FCT Indigene be made the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission and Secretary to be given to Youth of FCT.

“The Secretary to the Government of FCTA should be given to an FCT Indigene for the sake of fairness, equity and justice.

“The FCT Minister should Constitute an Advisory Council which will consist of our stakeholders and others.

“The above demands are key towards the liberation, development and peaceful co-existence of the FCT indigenes and other Nigerians,” he said .
