Resign from active politics, Igbo youth tell Mbazurike, Nwobodo

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) worldwide Tuesday cautioned Amaechi Mbazurike and Jim Nwobodo from washing their dirty linens in public.

The council noted that they are disgracing the Igbo race in politics, especially as it concerns Igbo presidency come 2023.

The youth group said this in a statement signed and issued in Abakaliki by the president general of OYC, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and the secretary, Okwu Nnabuike.

They advised the elder statesmen to retire from politics and take care of their health since its obvious they are not fighting for the benefits of Ndigbo, but for their own selfish interest.

The statement read in part: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council worldwide is a content based global organisation populated by disciplined and principled younger generation of Igbo with a clear sense of Igbo history with accurate records that holds in high esteem the Igbo dignity, image and unity, and have the courage to sanction and discipline erring elders, whose adult delinquent activities had repeatedly brought shame and disaster to Igbo nation.

“Igbo youths read in the pages of national newspapers the allegations, attacks and counter attacks from those who are supposed to provide leadership direction to Igbo nation based on their age and wealth of experience. They are expected to be the centralised political fortresses for Igbo in the absence of Igbo legends like Zik of Africa, Dim Odumegwu Chukwuemeka Ojukwu and Alex Ekwueme.

“But contrary to our collective expectations, these elder statesmen of 80, 90 years allowed their obvious selfishness and insatiable desires to make them fight dirty and wash their dirty linens in public, without exploration of Igbo internal mechanisms and cultural processes of settling disputes privately as Igbo custom demands.

“Since both respected Igbo elder statesmen had renewed their old unhealthy rivalry which began in early 80s, which can never be seen amongst their contemporaries from the North, West or Niger Delta, Igbo youth advise both Igbo elders to quietly retire from active politics or speak on behalf of Igbo without proper consultation.”
