Reps probe inconsistencies, delay in legislative aides’ salaries

The House of Representatives has mandated its Committee on House Services to investigate alleged inconsistencies, as well as delay in the payment of wages of legislative aides to members of the National Assembly.

This came following a motion by Hon. Bamidele Salam on Wednesday, who expressed dismay that there have been a lot of inconsistencies in the salaries of the aides.

He said despite adequate budgetary provisions to cater for the wages, “some of them are withheld by the management without convincing justification”, adding that the legislative aides are entitled to their wages as approved.

Making contribution, chairman of the committee on Treaties and Agreements, Hon. Nicholas Osai said “every labourer deserves his wages,” noting further that the motion was a demonstration of concerns of the House and its leadership on the welfare of the aides.

The committee is expected to turn in its report within two weeks.
