Police, vigilantes kill 10 bandits in Niger

Ten bandits operating in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger state were at the weekend killed in an exchange of fire with the police and vigilantes.

The Chairman of the local government council, Alhaji Samaila Musa Madibbo stated this while speaking with journalists adding that the incident occurred on Saturday night.

He said two of the bandits were captured alive and presently in custody of the police and assisting in further investigations, adding that, “over 200 cows and 300 sheep were also recovered from the bandits.”

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Niger state Police Command, ASP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident to journalists in Minna, explaining that it occurred in Karaya Mahanga and Bakachi villages at 2.30am on Saturday morning.

He said, “the armed bandits engage the police and local vigilantes in a gun battle at Makujeri village less than four kilometer from Kagara headquarters of Rafi Local Government Area of Niger state. The DPO Kagara mobilised operation Pupp Adder with some local vigilantes to engage the armed bandits who have been terrorising people of Rafi and its environs for quite a long time.”

Blueprint learnt that the Chief of Staff Government House Minna Ibrahim Balarabe, who hails from the area has visited to reassure his people of the commitment of the Niger state government to rid the state of all forms of  criminal elements.
