Police foil kidnapping attempt along Kaduna-Buruku highway

Policemen from the Kaduna state Police Command on Thursday foiled a kidnap attempt at Corner Ugara along the Kaduna-Buruku highway following a routine patrol, the Police command has said.

Speaking in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, the Police said the bandits were on the verge of striking when the officers from the 47 (Police Mobile Force (PMF) attached to Buruku Police Station successfully foiled the attack thereby ensuing in a gunduel between the police and criminals.

“On March 21st, 2024, at approximately 1300hrs, officers from the 47 PMF attached to Buruku Police Station successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt by armed bandits along the Buruku to Kaduna Highway.

“While conducting a routine crime prevention patrol along the highway, the vigilant PMF personnel spotted armed bandits near Corner Ugara and upon sighting the PMF personnel, the armed bandits opened fire, prompting an immediate response from the officers. In a display of remarkable courage and professionalism, the PMF personnel returned fire, effectively neutralizing the threat posed by the armed bandits.

“The exchange of gunfire forced the armed bandits to retreat into the nearby bush. Despite their attempts to evade capture, the armed bandits suffered fatal injuries during the confrontation.

“The Commissioner of Police Kaduna state Command, CP Ali Audu Dabigi, commends the bravery and swift action demonstrated by the 47 PMF personnel in preventing what could have been a tragic incident along the Buruku to Kaduna Highway. He commends the PMF personnel for a display of remarkable courage and professionalism.

“The CP also urges members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly,” ASP Hassan said.
