Police arrest 11 cult leaders in Edo

The Nigeria Police, yesterday, said that the intervention of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, in the cult-related violence in Edo state yielded positive results with the arrest of 11 cult leaders in the state.

Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Emmanuel Ojukwu, an acting Commissioner of Police (CP), in a press statement in Abuja, said that “the Special Crack Squad designated for the assignment, on May 12, 2015, through vigorous intelligence, arrested 11 highly placed persons from different locations of the state who are ring leaders of cult groups linked to recent cult related killings in the state.”

He said that, a total of 56 suspected vicious cultists linked to the recent violence in the state have been rounded up by the Squad and are undergoing interrogation.

According to him, the IGP remains determined that no criminal will be spared, no matter how highly placed, just as the Police High Command, “graciously appreciated the collaborative efforts of the members of the public, particularly in Edo state on the achievement made so far by the Special Crack Squad.”
He assured that adequate measures would continue to be put in place to ensure safety of lives and property, nationwide.
