Pogba’s brother, others in Police net over blackmail plot

Paul Pogba’s brother Mathias, has been arrested with three others regarding alleged blackmail plot against the Juventus midfielder.

A judicial investigation was opened on September 2 after Paul told authorities a group had requested money for protection services stretching back 13 years.

Le Monde reports Mathias has decided to turn himself in to the authorities, who are looking into allegations of extortion with a weapon, kidnapping or kidnapping in an organised gang and participating in a criminal association.

He was then placed in custody, along with three other suspects.

Paul Pogba said he was taken to a flat in Lagny-sur-Marne in March and forced to hand over €100,000.

He also claimed acts of intimidation were carried out in Manchester in April and later around the Italian city of Turin following his summer transfer to Juventus.

The situation emerged after Mathias Pogba made a statement on social media which promised ‘explosive information’ that could ‘affect his sibling’s popularity around the world’.

When the gang continued to ask for money, Paul filed a criminal complaint through his lawyers.

The former Wrexham player has publicly denied the claims about his involvement in the alleged extortion.

He recently said: “Paul, you really wanted to shut me up completely to lie and send me to prison, I suspected it now it’s true, my version of the facts happens and unlike you.”

Last week, Matihas Pogba’s lawyer Richard Arbib insisted his client had ‘nothing to do’ with an extortion plot and put the family feud down to ‘external threats’.
