A nongovernmental organisation known as People’s Vision for Community Development Initiative ( PVCDI), has called on politicians to stop meddling with the activities of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development over payment of conditional cash transfer and palliatives to vulnerable Nigerians in cushioning the effects of lockdown across the country caused by COVID- 19 pandemic.
The group in a statement issued by its president, Mr Fidelis Yughur, in Abuja Thursday, said calling for reforms now was unnecessary because of the emergency situation at hand over the coronavirus pandemic.
“Reforms are important but not immediately as being suggested by some politicians. It requires long term plans which cannot be achieved now.
“Besides, calling for reforms under an emergency situation like this will be diversionary to the ministry in performing its duties,” he said.
He commended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Ministry, Sadiya Umar Farouq, for the effective disbursements of the conditional cash transfer and palliatives done so far.
He also urged her to remain focused in discharging her duties to the people, which is in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s people centered governance .
Mr Yughur added that COVID- 19 is a passing phase in Nigeria and in the world generally and it will soon be defeated.
