Oyo: Day scratch card rescued house wife

Fortune smiled on a house wife job seeker in Ibadan recently when she stumbled on the winning card that gave her a brand new car. AGOOLA BAYO narrates.

Luck often knows no bounds and have no time as it can smile at any individual at any time. The manifested itself in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital recently when an Ibadan-based graduate job seeker won an exotic GCA Car in the on GQ2 Goodies National Consumer Promotion across Nigeria.

Blueprint investigation reveals that Mrs Godwin Chineze Success, a graduate of English/Education from the Federal University Gombe said on that day, her mission was to get 15 bags of Dangote Cement somewhere in Ibadan for use in moulding blocks on a piece of land for family. Unknown to her, luck was already blinking on her side as she suddenly discovered the winning ticket from one of the 15 bags of the cement she bought.

According to her, on sighting the promo scratch card, she gave little or no attention to it, not to talk of the content but said after a while, she scratched to determine the genuineness of the promo. However, on sighting the content, she realised that she won the star prize, a GCA brand new car for which she immediately alerted her husband.

Days after, she could still not believe it until she was asked to come for the formal presentations of the star prize which was eventually handed over to her at a colourful ceremony in Ibadan.

While receiving the key to the brand new car, Success left no one in doubt about her joy, saying, that day would forever remain evergreen in her memory.

She said, “I will first of all say a very big thank you to Dangote. I did not take the promo seriously at the initial time as I thought it was a joke, not knowing that it was a reality.  Dangote should endeavour to continue with this type of empowerment initiatives which, I believe, will go a long way in positively changing the fortunes of many Nigerians like me.”

Presenting the GAC Salon car to her, the group managing director of Dangote Group, Engineer Joseph Makoju said the car is one of the seven new cars allocated to Ibadan zone to appreciate customers of the company. “A total of 43 new cars are available for customers during the promotion apart from other prizes.

“Dangote Cement Plc is a single product company. The only product we make is cement. We pride our self to be the leading producer, not only in Nigeria today, but in Africa. Actually, we have gone global. Recently, the top 10 cement companies in the world formed an organisation called GCCA. I am very happy and proud to tell you that Dangote Cement was invited. We are one of the 10 top producers of cement in the world. Dangote has put Nigeria on the global map. The name Dangote itself is a brand and everything that comes from him is of international quality,” he said.

Engr Makoju added that the company produces eight million bags of cement daily as well as dispatch 40,000 tons of cement on a daily basis. He added that the company is determined to at all times ensure quality.

“On a daily basis, we dispatch about 40,000 tonnes of cement. Every tonne is 20 bags. If you calculate, you will get eight million bags. So, we push out eight million bags of Dangote cement every day. It is known internationally that the company is one of the few producers of cement that uses what we called robotic technology to make cement.  What this means is that we have continuous 24-hour monitoring of quality. So, the cement that comes out at the end of the day is of the highest quality.”

“We know that what you don’t compromise in every product is quality on the long run. The other issues like price and service have to be there to back up quality. In those areas again, we are a leader. In fact, what brought us here today is part of our efforts to keep our customers satisfied and to be one step ahead of the competition.

Once you are the leading brand, you have to work hard to stay as the leader and to do that, you have to be coming up with new innovations and this is one of them. In Dangote Cement, we work very hard to make sure it remains Nigeria’s number one quality product as far as cement is concerned. The quality is there and affordable. So, the quality has to be right and the price has to be right,” he said.
