‘Over 14,000 candidates seek admission to FUTA’

Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) said over 14,000 candidates participated in its 2018 Post-UTME admission screening.
The FUTA post-UTME screening which commenced from Monday will see over 14,000 candidates jostling for 4000 admission slots in the university.
The chairman of FUTA admission committee and deputy vice chancellor (Academic), Prof.
Olatunde Arayela, said that over 20,000 candidates chose FUTA as their first choice university in the 2018 UTME and more than 13,000 scored above 180, which is the minimum requirement for the screening exercise.
Arayela also added that about 2,000 admission seekers who applied for a change of institution chose FUTA after their UTME.
On the conduct of the screening, Arayela said, “We are set for the screening exercise.
We have made adequate arrangement and by the Grace of God, everything will run smoothly as in the previous years.
As an institution, we have established a tradition of excellence and merit in FUTA and this will guide the final selection of candidates who will ultimately secure admission into any of our 43 academic programmes.” The chairman, therefore, urged the candidates, parents and guardians to obey the rules guiding the postUTME screening, adding that the selection process would be strictly based on merit.
Recall that in May, two students of the university reportedly invented a health device that could reduce the risk of blood clot or deep vein thrombosis.
The students are going to represent Nigeria at the regional finals of the biggest software competition for undergraduates in the world
