Oshiomhole swears-in new perm sec

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state has assured public officers in the state that government will continue to reward merit, hard work and excellence as a morale booster to enhance productivity.

He gave the assurance yesterday at the swearing-in of Mrs Vera Obadan as a Permanent Secretary and Secretary of the Board of the state Internal Revenue Service.

Speaking after administering the relevant oaths on the new Permanent-Secretary, Oshiomhole said “this appointment is unique is some ways. This is not one of those appointments we make on account of how many years one has put in the service. It is based purely on merit; merit-driven and merit-earned.”

He said: “The future of our state lies on the productivity of our public officers. From all the reports that I have received, all the evaluations by all manners of persons who have come into contact with you, say that you have put in extraordinary efforts to ensure that the revenue service performs optimally.

“I am convinced that by your elevation, we are making several statements; first, that a woman can do better any of those things a man can do and your years of achievement is a practical attestation to that. Secondly, people who have demonstrated exceptional knowledge, ability, passion and the resourcefulness don’t need to mark as much time as the average officer and your appointment today is a confirmation of that.”

Responding, Obadan thanked the state government for the opportunity given her to serve and promised to be diligent in the discharge of her assignment.
