Oluwo recommends genuine capital punishment for corruption, kidnapping

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdurosheed Akanbi, has recommended genuine and effective capital punishment for corruption and kidnapping in Nigeria.

The monarch maintained that kidnapping would stop if the crime carries a death sentence.

Speaking with Blueprint correspondent in his palace on Wednesday, Oluwo expressed displeasure over the spate of hunger occasioned by the insincerity of politicians.

According to the monarch, when the allocation increased as a result of the removal of fuel subsidies, governors should be sincere in sharing the dividends from the proceeds of Federal Allocation.

“The governors, senators, representatives, and local governments are collecting money that no one has ever collected since the removal of fuel subsidies.

“They are sharing the subsidy money, so why should people be hungry? If we don’t want corruption to continue, there must be capital punishment. If a person steals a goat that is worth N20,000 and he was sentenced to ten years imprisonment, a politician who stole N10 billion is given the option of a fine or plea bargain.

“There must be laws to checkmate those who are stealing government money. Some people must be made to pay for it. Kidnapping and all this corruption must be punishable by death,” Oluwo said.
