ODSG tasks public servants on alternative sources of income

The Ondo state government has enjoined public servants, especially teachers in basic education sector to explore alternative credible sources of income to meet the increasing daily needs of the modern society.

The chairman, Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Victor Olabimtan, a former speaker of the state assembly gave the advice while commissioning a new block of 3 classrooms, an office and 2 units toilet at A.U.D Grammar school, Akungba Akoko.

Olabimtan charged the teachers to be good ambassadors of the teaching profession because it is a noble one and enjoined them to be industrious by adding another stream of income in order to live a good life, especially after leaving public service.

Ondo SUBEB boss used himself as a vivid example and averred that while teaching in a secondary school in one of the towns in  Ekiti state, he took a loan from a thrift society to finance taxi cab business which he used daily to convey farm produces to town before and after school hours.

“I thank God for such wisdom because apart from using the proceeds to meet additional needs of my young family, I used the bulk of profit  to build my first house.”

Speaking on the essence of the: The School Based Management Project, Ondo SUBEB boss said it is a special intervention fund from UBEC directly to some selected schools to ensure the school and community ownership of the projects. He added it will ensure the sustainability of the project since the immediate stakeholders were involved in the construction.
