Obligations during Ramadan

In the forty Hadith of AnNawawi, Hadith No. 36, on the authority of the father of Hurairat (May Allah be pleased with him), related from the messenger of God (Peace and blessing of Allah be with him) who said: Any person who removes the worldly predicament for a faithful, Allah will remove him the predicament of his, on the resurrection day. And any person who makes the way of someone in difficulty tidy, Allah will make his way tidy both here (World) and hereafter. Any person who hides the secret of a Muslim, Allah will hide his secret both here (World) and hereafter. Allah is ever ready to help the servants as long as the servant is ready to help his brother. It’s on the light of this Hadith, I find it worthy to write this piece, as a clarion call to our Muslims community as Muslims in the world and Nigeria usher into a new month popularly known as “Ramadan”. It’s a holy month to the Muslims Ummah which comes every year.

It’s a month of Ibadat i.e. worshiping the Almighty God, and also a month of spirituality.

In this month of Ramadan, Muslims are expected to totally desist from any wrongdoing and disobedience to the teachings of Islam. And Muslims are encouraged to heavily engaged in the acts of charity, generosity, and giving alms to the poor. There are many poor people living within us as and far from us, and these people find it very difficult to feed themselves daily. Therefore, this is a month of tremendous opportunities to grab an immense reward by the affluent, and to whoever has the capacity to ameliorate the hardship through feeding the poor.

I will also like to call on market men and women, especially the Muslims, to fear God, not to be increasing the price of food and other basic necessities in this holy month. We need to constantly and consistently help our neighbours who are in extreme need, during Ramadan and after because rendering assistance will not reduce us in anything, but rather make us become prosperous in the world and hereafter. Our neighbours are the same wiThus.

In a saying narrated by “Aisha” (RA) a wife of prophet Muhammad (SAW), it’s reported that the Angel Jibril insisted that Prophet Muhammad should understand the importance of the good treatment of neighbours. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said that it has reached the stage; he thought Allah would confer inheritance rights on neighbours. This simply shows and admonishes to us, that our neighbours deserve all compassion and humility from us. And they are not to be neglected. We need to carry them along even on our comfort. Jabir T.
