President Goodluck Jonathan and former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo met in the early hours of yesterday in Abuja to discuss nation’s security matters.
The visit, Blueprint gathered, was on the invitation of President Jonathan at the Villa.
This came barely two days after the former President commended efforts of the federal and Lagos state governments respectively on the measures taken to check the spread of Ebola virus.

Also, Obasanjo at the weekend bared his mind on the state of economy, as he drew similarities between the way the present state of the economy is going and the way it was during the regime of the late Gen. Sani Abacha, saying that “the current situation has almost wiped out the middle class.”
Obasanjo while confirming to newsmen the meeting with Jonathan shortly after arriving from Abuja in Abeokuta yesterday, said it was purely on security matters.

He said: “Yes, I can confirm that I met with Mr. President on his invitation. In fact, he had wanted to come down to Abeokuta, but as a sign of respect to the Office of the President, I had to go. We had discussion on the country’s security issues and that is all.”
The former president, who appreciated the invitation of President Jonathan, said he would continue to make his himself available on national issues in the interest of peace and progress of the country.
On the Eggon/Fulani crisis in Nasarawa state, Obasanjo called on the governments of Benue and Nasarawa states to ensure that peace was restored to the warring communities.
He said the two, Eggon (who are farmers) and the Fulani who are herders, must understand each other over the differences.

“There is no way, such will not happen, but the two state governments should come up with lasting solutions. The farmers would want their crops to be protected, while the cattle men will also want their cattle to feed. So, the governments should fashion out peaceful means to end the crisis.”
