Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has warned residents of Kaduna state to be wary when boarding commercial vehicles in Kaduna, adding that armed robbers posing as commercial drivers are on the increase.

According to its Commandant in the state, Alhaji Zakari Ningi, the warning became imperative considering the rate at which some operators of commercial vehicles take advantage of their passengers and end up robbing them at vulnerable spots.

He said the menace was not only carried out by unpainted commercial taxis and buses, adding that even commercial vehicles painted in the state commercial colours were also involved in the unscrupulous practices.
“Some operators of painted commercial buses in the metropolis carry unsuspecting passengers but end up robbing them on board,” he said.

Ningi said the Civil Defence command had received complaints from victims of such robberies, and advised passengers to be extra careful while boarding commercial vehicles especially within Kaduna metropolis.

He added that the command had since commenced investigation into the matter after it received complaints from two persons who had been robbed in such manner in the metropolis.
Ningi, however, urged the general public to assist the NSCDC with useful information that would help it track down and apprehend robbers.
