NIS recruitment deaths: Youths call for minister, CG’s sack

Outgoing President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Wale Ajani, has condemned the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Saturday’s recruitment exercise, calling for a proper investigation into the matter without any politicisation.
Ajani made the call in a statement from his office demanding within the next 72 hours that “Mr. President should immediately investigate the callous and inhuman treatment meted on Nigerian Youths on Saturday”.

The statement also called for the immediate sack of the Comptroller General of Immigration, Mr. David Parradang, and full compensation to the families of the dead jobseekers, adding that government should also take responsibility for the medical bills of all those recuperating in hospitals.
It also demanded that the Minister of Interior, Abba Morro, give a public apology to the young people for allowing this ‘inhumane treatment and assault’ on them under his leadership.

“The sad incidence of deaths that accompanied the recruitment exercise of the Nigeria Immigration Service calls for a sincere condemnation devoid of any Politicization. About 20 young people lost their lives while over 50 young Nigerians were still in critical condition,” the statement said.

“The Minister of Interior and CG of NIS under whose supervision this uncivilized & unwarranted madness took place should have resigned by now or be shown the way out by President Goodluck Jonathan. It was recalled that almost 1,000,000 applicants paid N1000 each as application fees through an agent defrauding these unemployed youth of almost about two Billion Naira,” it added.
