Niger probes internal revenue service chair

Niger state government has set up a committee to investigate allegations of financial misappropriation against the chairman of Niger state Internal Revenue Service, Mohammed Madami Etsu.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, stated this weekend at a briefing in Minna.

He said the investigation became necessary following a petition over allegations of misappropriation of public funds by the chairman.

He said, “The committee is to identify the basis for the petition against the chairman, establish whether or not there was any financial or administrative infraction within the board and make appropriate recommendations.”

Members of the committee include the state accountant general, permanent secretary, water resources, Comrade Anas Aliyu, Doctor Yahaya Zakari, representative of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

The committee is expected to report back to government in two weeks.
