Niger state House of Assembly has suspended and barred the member representing Kontagora 1 constituency, Hon. Muhammad Nuradeen Uma, from the Assembly complex over allegations of misrepresenting the House in a press interview last week.
Umar, also the minority leader, was accused of making false claims in the interview he granted Blueprint on June 12, that the lawmakers were bribed to impeach two former speakers of the assembly.
The assembly adopted the resolution suspending the lawmaker following a motion of urgent public importance by Yusuf Kure, representing Paikoro Constituency.
He said: “The House is worried because since inauguration of the seventh legislature, there have never been such bills in the House sponsored by the honourable member except the one on the public private partnership and it was not a private bill but forwarded by the executive arm of government.”
Kure also described as “unfounded” the allegation by the suspended lawmaker that the executive arm had been interfering in the affairs of the House just to give himself a credit.
The House also directed its Committee on Ethics, Public Petitions and Privileges to investigate the allegations and report back to it.
