A former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau state, Jethro Akun, has announced his aspiration to run for the gubernatorial ticket of the PDP in 2015 gubernatorial elections.
Speaking to news men in Jos yesterday, Akun who commended the incumbent, Jonah David Jang, for what he described as “the solid infrastructure foundation he had laid for development in the state,” said “there is the need for another committed person to take over and build on the foundation to take the state to the next development level.”
Akun said his aspiration was borne out of the desire to serve state and country, and his bid was emboldened by his own conviction and belief that only God could anoint a leader “because power comes from Him alone.”
Akun, who hails from Bokkos in Plateau Central senatorial zone as former governor Joshua Dariye, noted that “nowhere in the history of Plateau state and partisan politics is the issue of zoning enshrined,” arguing that all elections in the state were always keenly contested by all the zones on any political platform. He said the greatest ideal associated with democracy was the right to aspire to any office “so far as you have met the lower age limit and other conditions spelt out in the constitution of the country.”
