The Sam Empowerment Foundation, a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), has decried the living condition of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS) at the Kuchingoro camp along Airport Road, Abuja.
National coordinator of the Foundation, Mrs Kiema Ogunlana, while on outreach visit, called on government, Civil Society Organisation (CSOs), and other stakeholders to come to the aid of the displaced persons.

She explained that the Foundation, in partnership with another NGO, the Paul’s Mission, were at the camp as part of effort to provide support to vulnerable persons in the society by catering to their medical and psycho-social needs.
She said: “We sympathise with what the internally displaced persons are going through, but beyond sympathising with them we decided to go for an outreach and entered a partnership with the Paul’s Mission INC on its Roll Back Malaria programme to achieve this

“Apart from giving them relief materials including food stuff and clothing, we also offered free malaria, HIV/AIDs screening and counselling for the women and men and also deworm and gave vitamin supplement to children between the ages of 1-5. From our record, we have been able to touch over 300 people today.”
Similarly, Paul Uyammadu of the Paul’s Mission said the visit was ideal for the NGO to implement its Roll Back and expressed satisfaction that the visit was a success.
According to him, the number of IDPs that tested positive to malaria was a testimony that there was need to improve the living condition of the people so as to avoid outbreak of other infectious diseases.
