As part of activities for the inauguration of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, wife of Chief of Army Staff , Hajiya Ummul Khultum Buratai also inaugurated the Nigerian Army Offi cers Wives Association (NAOWA) Vocational Training Center at Elele Barracks, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. She said the NAOWA Vocational Training Center would focus in providing practical training for women in the barracks and the surrounding community in an eff ort to make them be self-reliant. Ealier, Chief of Army Staff , Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai inaugurated renovated Government Army Secondary School, which has been dilapidated for years, in the same Barracks. He said the school, now been renovated, would provide conducive teaching and learning environment for teachers and students
He urged both teachers and students of the school to ensure maintenance of the facilities to enable them last longer. He also charged students to be law abiding and respect their teachers, their parents and constituted authorities. Earlier the Brigade Commander, Brig.- Gen. Kelvin Aligbe said the school had not been renovated since its establishment in 1979, hence the decay infrastructure. He said out for 500 desks needed in the school the army has procured 300 desk, while the remaining 200 desk will be delivered soon. Principal of the school, Arigbudo Orinze, appealed that staff quarters be constructed in the school to ease accommodation challenges of teachers. The COAS also inaugurated Elele Barracks Vehicle Repair Bay and some brand new vehicles.
