‘NAHBPON poised to create over 1m jobs yearly’

The President National Association of Hair and Beauty Practitioners of Nigeria (NAHBPON), Mr Barile Ngbobu, has stated the resolve of his association to create over 1 million jobs annually to empower the country’s teeming youth as well as ease the burden of governments at all levels.
NAHBPON president said their business of hair and beauty is the fastest growing industry around the globe, only  second to tourism.

Ngbobu who made this remark on Tuesday at a sensitisation programme for the members said the industry held the key to unlock Nigeria’s unemployment challenges.
He said, “The registration of NAHBPON as an industrial union is a positive step to change the narrative and the union is poised to galvanise the abundant resources in the industry to empower the youths and create more than a million jobs annually with a view to easing the unemployment burden of the shoulders of the three tiers of government.”

He noted that the industry contributes more than five per cent of the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) of some advanced economies.
He also added that “the impact of the hair and beauty industry on Nigeria’s economy has remained minimal due largely to the absence of a national body to regulate and promote it’s activities.”
Ngbobu noted that as a result of this, the abundant talent and energy of 19.5 million Nigerian youth have remained untapped.
He, however, expressed delight in the registration of NAHBPON as an industrial union saying it is a positive step to change the narrative adding that the union is poised to galvanise the abundant resources in the industry.

The NAHBPON president who debunked the misconceptions that COVID-19 spreads through hair salons asked his members to be proactive to continue to debunk the rumour before it gains more ground.
He called on the hair and beauty practitioners to register from the unit levels so as to fully participate in the activities of the association.
