Ahead anti-corruption day: NGO raises alarm, preaches better Nigeria

In commemoration of the international anti-corruption day on December 9th, 2019, Michelle’s Youth Initiative for Sustainable Development (MYISD) a non-governmental organisation has raised alarm over the spate of corruption practices in the country.

According to the Executive Director, Comrade Michelle Onyeneke Peter, the spate of corruption practices has eaten deep in the country.

Part of its activities to commemorate the event, the Initiative said it  plans to take intervention program to all the nooks and crannies in the country.

According to the Executive Director, Comrade Michelle Onyeneke, the intervention and awareness programmes were aimed at giving out assistance to youth who have the small scale business ideas and make them know how to be self reliant rather than engaging on illegal activities to survive .

She said the awareness program is to also take mindset off corruption activities and make them be a better person in the society.

Michelle popularly known as Princess Mimi said the initiative will also honour some well meanings Nigerians as an anti-corruption crusaders who are into legitimate businesses.

Those to be honoured are Mallam Yusuf O Ali, SAN, Prof Charles C. Soludo,Former CBN Governor, Dr Kelechi Eric Igwe, Deputy Governor of Ebonyi state, Dr Emmanuel N Mbaka, MD Platinum mortgage bank Ltd, Hon Dr Ned Nwoko, chair man Linas international limited.

Others are Chief Chikwe Udensi, CEO Sheiks and Bishop limited, Dr George Uboh. CEO panic Alert security systems, Chief Felix obuah, chairman Krisdera hotels and Resort, Hon Uzoma Nkem Abonta, representing Ukwa east/ukwa west constituency.

She said the aim of the award was to make others emulate from them because corruption has eaten deep into the society making the country to lag behind .

She said they also intended to take corruption awareness to primary and secondary schools, University , Government agencies and they are in partnership with agencies such as NANs, Nigeria Female Youth Council (NFYC), ICPC, EFCC amongst others. 

The International Anti-Corruption Day has been observed annually, on December 9, since the passage of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption to raise public awareness for anti-corruption.
