Monarch cautions govt on vigilante members’ enlistment



The Duke (Enogie) of Eyaen community in Edo state, HRH, Osazuwa  Aiwerioghene Iduriase, has advocated for background checks on individuals before their enlistment into vigilante groups in the state.
Iduriase stated that the move would ensure that persons of questionable characters do not find their way into the security outfit in order not to jeopardise government good intentions for the citizenry.  

The traditional ruler who noted that the vigilante groups in collaboration with security agents have helped in crime reduction, advised the government to sought the imput of royal fathers on persons designated as vegilantes in their domain.


The Duke spoke when members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Edo State paid him a courtesy visit in his palace.
According to him, “I am advising and also appealing to the state government, and  to law enforcement agencies to properly watch carefully before any member can be given the authority to go about with gun.”
Whilst tasking journalists on objective and balanced reportage, the monarch admonished them to hold government accountable on its electoral promises.


He said: “I want to appeal that you should focus on our government. Let them know that we all know our right. 
“Now that rainy season is fast approaching majority of the areas that are presently motorable within a short period from now such areas will no longer be motorable again.” 
Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Mrs. Nefishetu Yakubu, commended the royal father for attracting development to the area and ensuring that there is peace in his domain.
