Lions Club to treat 10,000 diabetic patients in 3 states

Lions Club, District 404B1, yesterday said it would treat and give drugs to 10,000 diabetic patients in its coverage areas of Lagos, Ogun and Oyo states.

 

Engineer Oyewole Oyewunmi, disclosed this yesterday while briefing reporter ahead of his inauguration as District Governor on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.

 

The inauguration is a district-based version of the swearing-in done in Chicago on July 4 for all 741 district governors of Lions Club across the world.

Oyewunmi said counseling, screening and treatment of diabetic patients were the medical interventions that the global body recommended for club running from June, 2017 to July 2018.

 

The governor disclosed that diabetic was the second killer-disease in the world, hence, the Lions Club was committed to reducing it.

 

Oyewunmi explained that the district had budget N50m for all intervention projects, including youth empowerment, feeding of the needy, treatment of visually impaired, cleaning of environment, among others.

 

He added that the Club had entered into partnership with the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi on the training of 100 youths on juice production, catering and  bakery as part of the empowerment.

 

Oyewunmi also said plans were underway to establish Vocational Centre for the district.
