LGA chair advocates anti-corruption subject in primary school syllabus

The chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, Hon. Shehu Bala, has urged the Plateau state minsirty of education to include subjects into syllabus that would teach primary school pupils the dangers of corruption and related practices.
He said corruption is a giant monster that has been degrading the progress of societies and country at large.

Hon. Bala made the suggestion in an interactions with journalists after the town hall meeting and launching of faith based pedagogy on anti corruption in Jos, organised by Interfaith Mediation Center, with support from Macarthur Foundation.

He said: “Just like I suggested to the State Government to see ways through the educational sector to include in our school syllabus on how our children will respect the norms and values of ecah others religions and cultures, is the same way that I am advocating to the State Government to insert in the syllabus the way that our children will learn how to avoid corruption.”

Hon. Bala said by doing so the nation would be on a stronger foundation of avoiding and fighting corruption, adding that it will also aide in amending what is now obtainable in the system.

“By amending what we have, the corrupt People, amongst us then automatically our children should be taken in a way that they would be thought on how to avoid corruption so that we can have a very peaceful nation that will developed,” he said.

He congratulated Governor Simon Lalong, for his feat against corruption, adding that the recent NBS report that placed Plateau as, “second least corrupt,” in the country is worth commendation.

Hon. Bala said his lead administration is doing everything possible, to replicate the efforts of his principal towards achieving same feat in Jos North LG Council.

“I have zero tolerance on corruption and we are doing our possible best to ensure compliance to financial decispline and service delivery to our people, which I have directed all staff to adhere to,” he said.
